One of the principal reasons, it is so challenging, to find the quality leaders, organizations and constituents, both, need, and deserve, is, few are truly ready, willing and/ or able, to make the necessary SACRIFICES, involved, in leading effectively, and in a meaningful manner! A true leader must be a different type of person, willing to put service to his group, and stakeholders, ahead of his personal or political agenda, and/ or, self - interest. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, some of the necessities, involved in this process.
1. Stronger: How one focuses, and whether his emphasis is, consistently, on proceeding forward, with the intent of making his organization, and constituents stronger, is a major, determining factor, and consideration, in whether he will make a meaningful difference, for the better! Obviously, doing this, requires putting others' first, consistently!
2. Able/ abilities: It may take a significant amount of time, emphasis, commitment, and a significant degree of personal sacrifice, to develop the necessary skills and abilities, to get things done, in a well - considered way! Why do you believe, you might be one of the few, who is consistently able, to do so?
3. Character: One might be able to train potential leaders, in the skills, etc, needed for leading, but unless/ until, one possesses the quality of character, to empathize and care deeply, about the best course of action, he will find leadership, extremely challenging!
4. Relevant: Leading is not about looking, or, even, being busy, or caring, and hoping to do what's right! It requires the focus, commitment, and self - sacrifice, to pursue relevant courses of action, rather than merely the most convenient paths!
5. Ideas: One can't be considered a leader, if he merely, remains within the restrictions of his personal comfort zone, and proceeds, with the same - old, same - old, ways. Rather, judge the quality of a leader, by the relevance, and sustainability of his ideas!
6. Face facts: Don't bury - your - head, in the sand, and proceed, in denial, or with, so - called, rose - colored glasses! Rather, getting things done, which are needed, and necessary, requires a willingness and ability to face the facts!
7. Imagination: Will you think, beyond the norm, and proceed, with the quality of imagination, to see things, as they might be, and should be, rather than merely, as they presently exist, or you hope them, to be?
8. Clever/ creative: Quality leaders must be creative, and inspire others, to get more involved and committed! Are you clever, enough, to do so?
9. Empathy; emphasis; energy: Prioritize effective listening, and learn, from every conversation and experience! This will enhance your ability to proceed with genuine empathy, and place your emphasis, where it will have the most desired results! When one proceeds, with a great amount of energy, he begins to develop the skills, to make a real difference, for the better!
10. Sustainable solutions: It is easy to proceed, in an undisciplined way, but, those willing to make the personal sacrifice, to put others first, proceeds, with a focus on sustainable solutions!
